Paddle for Privates wins Orange County Beach Blog photo contest. The photo portrayed a group of people in costumes paddling to raise money and awareness for the John Wayne Cancer Foundation. Eric Harper of One World Imaging won the prize, an ATX Stand Up Paddleboard.
Two more paddling the Mississippi: Garrett Gnade left the headwaters of the Mississippi River at Lake Itasca on Aug. 28. He has been joined by his friend Thomas Irwin at Memphis. Gnade hopes to achieve stand-up paddleboard world records including longest fresh water trip, longest saltwater trip and longest overall trip on a paddleboard when he completes the 5,100-mile trip.

Clean Water Earth Day Festival & Stand-Up Paddleboard Race: April 21, 2012 Santa Monica Beach: 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM. In celebration of the Clean Water Act’s 40th Anniversary and Earth Day, Santa Monica Baykeeper and the Waterkeeper Alliance will host the 1st Annual Stand-Up for Clean Water paddleboard race & festival to raise awareness about stormwater runoff and ocean pollution, and Santa Monica Baykeeper’s role in the protection & restoration of waterways in Los Angeles County.

2012 WPA World Championship: Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, November 3 & 4, 2012. The world's best paddlers will compete in tropical weather and warm water for two days. The world championship race will be conducted on 14’ boards for Men and 12’6 boards for Women. The World Paddle Association will sanction 200 plus events in 2012 along with events in Australia, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Europe.
