The Presidential Challenge of Costa Rica starts March 1. The series is considered one of the most prestigious in the Americas. The tournament promotes tourism and raises money for charitable organizations dedicated to protecting gamefish, including The Billfish Foundation, Adopt-A-Billfish and the International Game Fish Association.
The 10th Annual World Sailfish Championship, billed as the Richest Sailfishing Tournament in the world, takes place Arpil 17th to 21st, in Key West, Florida. First place receives $75,000.
Jimmy Johnson's National Billfish Championship takes place March 1-3 in Key Largo, Florida. Billfish competitors rub shoulders with notable NFL players, to raise money for charitable causes. Winners compete for Cash Prizes and Champions receive authentic custom designed Jimmy Johnson’s NBC Championship Rings.
The Palm Beach International Boat Show, March 22-25, is said to be one of the top ten boat shows in the country - featuring more than $350 million worth of boats, yachts and accessories from the world’s leading marine manufacturers.
Killer whale hooked in New Zealand. The Orca bit off the lure after approximately an hour. The Orca had dived, at one point taking over 1000 meters of line. The event took place at a tournament at Gisborne Tatapouri Sports Fishing Club’s Eastland Port Marlin and Tuna Hunt. A video was taken, but is not available.
The Alabama rig has turned into a new bass fishing craze in Alabama. The rig is a wire harness with five baits and can catch multiple fish at once. The rig is a smaller version of the umbrella rigs which catch striped bass by mimicking small schools of bait fish. It is illegal in some states.
