Siesta Key Wrap-Up

This weekend was incredible, ranked as one of the most beautiful beaches in all of the United States, Siesta Key was breathtaking. Our crew of enthusiastic supporters had a blast on Her Islands! An exciting start of being locked out of our complex and flooding fountains did not put a damper on their stay. On site both days of The Dig the Beach Volleyball Series and also providing players with Club Beach Dig Apparel was a major success. It seemed like ShoreThing was EVERYWHERE!! The days were filled with fun in the sun while sales were made. The items definitely protected the athletes and spectators from the environment. Harmful rays from the sun and heat did not fluster the supporters! They were able to enjoy their day while looking their best with the UPF 40, waterwicking longsleeve tees. A hot item that was flying off the rack was the Salty Air Cover Up! Girls and women alike fell in love with this weightless garment. It seemed like once anyone touched the clothing, they had to have it! We pride ourselves in having the most comfortable, fashionable apparel out on the market. Decals were going like hotcakes while everyone enjoyed their FREE TATTOOS!

The next event will be held next weekend, June 4-5th on the powdery sands of Fort Myers where we will be there again, providing you with the best apparel around!

Adrian Carambula finished fifth in Baltimore as he competed for the top finish at the NVL Preakness. Steve Grotowski flew back into the country just in time to take a second place overall at The Dig the Beach Event! We are very proud of you guys and we are looking forward to the future events to take all the gold!

How to Unhook a Fish

We all know that fishing has been a skilled artform passed down from generation to generation. The different techniques and methods of how to correctly hook a fish, wait for the “tug,” and reel the specimen in are all different. Today’s tip is how to properly unhook a fish so that the least amount of pain is inflicted on the fish and you do not become injured during the process.

Step #1: Pull the fish up close to your hands.

Step #2: Reach toward the fish and grab, with one hand, the fish around the pectoral fins (the fins below the gills).

Step #3: If the hook is in its lip or the edge of its mouth, simply pull the hook out. Do not tear the fish's lip if you can prevent doing so, that is cruel. Instead, pull it out the way it went in.

Step #4: If the fish has swallowed the hook the, are two possibilities. If you are going to eat the fish, cook it normally, then chop it up finally, remove the hook and enjoy). If you will not eat the fish, but are throwing it back or keeping for another reason, you may be able to cut away a small piece of flesh and remove the hook. If not, sadly there is probably nothing to do about it and you must let it go like that.

Step #5: Keep a pair of long nosed pliers or scissors when fishing. Use this to enter the fish's mouth. Rotate the hook out the way it came. Always use pliers to dull the barb on your hook. It makes getting the hook out easier, and is much more humane. Also, note that all the professional fishing tournaments don't allow barbed hooks.

Warnings:

Fish can cut you if you are not careful! Be sure to hold the pectoral fins tightly and don't let the fish jump free.

"Go big, or Go Home"

Countless hours of training, averaging three to four hours a day, everyday. The demands of sponsors, trainers, teammates, players, events and the media all weigh heavy on the shoulders of Steve Grotowski as he pursues his dream for gold. Recently traveling to China with the FIVB Tour, Grotowski leaves his new family of wife Capri and son Cayd to follow his dreams of the Olympics. It was announced just hours ago that Steve has advanced to the maindraw of the event passing through the first, second and third qualifying rounds. A ShoreThing is proud to be represented by such a passionate and goal oriented athlete. We wish you the best of luck in the rest of this event and we know that you will do amazing in your quest for gold.

Grotowski does not go to China alone however, his U.S. Partner Adrian Carambula has developed the concept of a charity event in efforts to minimize travel expenses for the talented Steve Grotowski. With the help of the beach volleyball community and devoted wife Capri the event will take place on Fort Lauderdale Beach this weekend. If you wish to register go to www.digthebeach.com.

Carambula also has had success while his main partner has been away, qualifying for the NVL Preakness last weekend with teammate VanZwieten. Carambula continues to set the bar high for opponents and leads the way to success even when Grotowski is out of town.

The remarkable team is not only strong on the court, but has an even stronger bond off the court, helping each other every way possible to reach their goals.
